U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia Lynne Tracy visited Border Guard Troops of the NSS of the RA
On October 3, 2019, a solemn donation ceremony of border security equipments provided by the U.S. Government, took place in Border Guard Troops of the RA National Security Service. The event was attended by Deputy Director of the National Security Service, Major-General Aram Hakobyan and U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia Lynne Tracy.
Welcoming the guests on behalf of the NSS leadership and on his own behalf and expressing gratitude to the US Government for the assistance provided, A. Hakobyan emphasized the importance of the agreement “On cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the United States of America in the field of countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction”, noting that its main mission is to counter the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as technologies, materials, knowledge and experience directly related to them.
“This large-scale technical assistance provided by the U.S. Government to BGT of the NSS of the RA within the framework of the agreement will definitely contribute to ensuring border security for Armenia and its neighboring states. We are convinced that the logistical support will be continuous and will contribute to raising the quality standards of the Armenian border security, said A. Hakobyan”.
Commander of Border Guard Troops of the NSS of the RA Colonel V. Sargsyan mentioned, that the efforts U.S. has made to maintain and strengthen the relations between two countries has been appreciated. As the protection of Armenian borders is the cornerstone of their responsible work․
Expressing gratitude for the reception, L. Tracy said in her speech:
“I am very proud that the strong friendship between our two countries has improved the safety and well-being of the Armenian people. Over the years our cooperation has developed to respond to the evolving threats facing Armenia and the world, as we have worked together to build an effective regional response.”
Provided logistical support includes mobile laboratories, optical imaging devices, signaling devices, communication systems, technically equipped classroom for teaching English, ATVs and other technical equipments. They will directly contribute to the prevention of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, international terrorism, smuggling, crime and the management of irregular migration flows.
